| The stupa was made of rammed earth, proof of its very early date . The original stupa was opened by King Ashoka, who removed some of the relics, which he placed in other stupas he erected through his empire. The excavation of this stupa in 1958 not only provided striking confirmation of this history, but also revealed a small soapstone casket containing burnt bone, a coin, a conch shell, two glass beads, and a small gold plate. | |||
