It was in Rajagaha that the young man Upatissa, a disciple of the a popular wandering teacher Sanjaya saw Assaji, a Buddhist Bhikkhu, on his alms rounds. When Upatissa asked Assaji about his teacher, Assaji replied in brief:

Of those things that arise from a cause,
The Tathagata has told the cause.
And also what their cessation is;
This is the doctrine of the Great Recluse.

Upatissa immediately understood, and attained the first stage of enlightenment. He ran to inform his childhood friend Kolita of his discovery.
