| For many years, this is what pilgrims saw when they visited Lumbini. The central structure was the Hindu Mahamaya Temple, allegedly built over the remains of a much earlier Buddhist stupa. In front of the temple, you can see the pillar which King Ashoka erected in the third century B.C. |
