From the university, we proceeded to the Royal Botanical Gardens nearby, where we spent several hours meandering and marvellilng. These gardens, which were once the king's pleasure garden, are among the most beautiful in the world. The variety of plants and trees is astonishing--the Orchid House, giant bamboo from Burma, the Fernery, Palmyra Avenue, ltailored coleus, the delicate Lady of the Night blossoms, and giant Java almond trees with amazing buttressed roots, just to name a few of the wonders. |
