In order to travel light,Jennie had brought few clothes, so one of hi\er first acts was to go shopping. She fell in love with Sri Lankan batik. She and Dorothy bought a lot of batik from the Women's Cooperative Sthree and from Ashoka Textiles downtown. One of Jennie's big interests was the ancient irrigation system in Sri Lanka. She took a two-day trip to Polonnaruwa with Jagath to see some of the tanks, Serendipitously, Dushy's uncle had written the seminal work on the ancient irrigation system, and she gave Jennie a copy to further her research. | |||||||||||||||||
Dorothy was content to spend time with us and Nezumi. We reminisced about Thailand, the Philippine Refugee Processing Center in Bataan, and the fifteen years we spent together in Japan. We also watched a movie almost every night. Each Sunday, Dorothy atended Mass.
Dorothy had been very active in the Burmese Relief Center--Japan. She attended every demonstration, was inteviewed for TV news, helped with the handicraft bazaars, and visited the camps on the Thai/Burma border several times. |
