This is the same image that was seen by Huien Tsiang and dates from the fifth century C.E. It is incredibly life-like, capturing the feeling that Buddha is on the point of passing away. One can almost hear his admonition, "Friends, enough of your weeping and crying! Has not the Lord already told you that all things that are pleasant and delightful are changeable, subject to separation and to becoming other?" |
