The temple enshrines a recumbent Buddha image more than 6 meters in length and carved out of a single block of reddish sandstone. There are three niches on the plinth under the statue, each holding a small figure. The one on the left is a woman with long hair, probably representing the grief of the Mallas. The one in the center shows a mediating monk with his back to the worshipper. That on the right, not visible here, is a monk overcome by grief at the Lord’s passing away.
