| In 1997, the temple was destroyed in an excavation to unearth the foundation of the original stupa. This is what you can see today. These ruins are under a corrugated metal roof. According to the Lumbini Development Master Plan, established in 1970, this spot will be the center of the Sacred Garden. When it is finished, if it ever is, the garden may indeed be impressive, but at the moment it is quite disappointing. |
